2/15/2021
Merit Health Central has named its 2020 Employee and Managers of the Year. All three were nominated by Merit Health Central employees and selected by a committee of supervisors and peers. Sandra Weber, RN, Telemetry, was named Employee of the Year. Latoya Satcher, regional practice administrator, Merit Health Medical Group, was named Non-Clinical Manager of the Year and Khalid Mokhtar, PharmD, Pharmacy clinical manager, was named Clinical Manager of the Year. These awards are the highest honor bestowed on hospital staff members.
“These deserving employees were selected based on their commitment to excellence and willingness to go the extra mile for the greater good of our hospital and patients,” said Dr. Greg Oden, interim chief executive officer of Merit Health Central. "It’s sometimes hard to do in a hospital our size, but these individuals stand out in a facility filled with exemplary employees. The fact they were recognized above all others illustrates their values, dedication and work ethic. It’s truly an honor to be able to recognize Sandra, Latoya and Khalid for their dedication and ability to put patients’ needs first on a daily basis.”
Sandra Weber, RN, Telemetry, 2020 Employee of the Year
A member of Merit Health Central’s staff since 2018, Sandra, a resident of Carthage, is a valued member of the hospital’s Telemetry unit, which cares for patients requiring close monitoring and specialized care. Her compassion for patients and willingness to support co-workers quickly drew the attention of supervisors and staff. Her strong caregiving skills are illustrated daily through professional, yet compassionate interactions with patients, family members, co-workers and physicians in a busy environment. An excerpt from her nomination includes patients’ description of her as someone that made their hospital stay a positive experience due to her compassion and commitment to taking care of their every need. Supervisors praise her dedication to patients and reliability, traits that are vital to the Telemetry unit.
Latoya Satcher, Regional Practice Administrator, Merit Health Medical Group, 2020 Non-Clinical Manager of the Year
As practice administrator, Latoya is responsible for a wide range of responsibilities vital to the hospital clinics’ operations, including staffing, planning and physician relations, among many other duties. Juggling numerous responsibilities and clinics may be a daunting task for even the most seasoned professional, but as a supervisor described her, “Latoya is a great administrator and planner, always anticipating needs before they arise.” Further, she is described as someone who is always willing to extend a hand to help her peers, managers and staff at all levels. Additional praise mentions her tendency to put aside her own tasks and ask others how she can help them obtain their goals for the overall good of the clinics. Latoya also serves as a valuable patient advocate, ready with a listening ear and willingness to solve any problems that may arise.
Khalid Mokhtar, PharmD, Pharmacy Clinical Manager, 2020 Clinical Manager of the Year
Khalid serves as the Pharmacy’s clinical manager and has been employed at Merit Health Central since 2006. Successfully managing the varied aspects of his position that include supporting antimicrobial stewardship is a delicate balancing act involving the needs of patients, physicians and staff. Khalid is described as “consistent” in his ability to effectively guide others in a calm, professional manner. Despite his sizable job responsibilities that require making rounds in multiple hospital departments, serving on hospital committees and performing discharge medication counseling for patients, he confronts each and every task with a calm dedication to excellence that leaves a positive impression on supervisors, peers and patients. His extensive knowledge based on advanced education, having received his PhD in 2017, and years of training, makes valuable contributions toward positive patient outcomes.
Merit Health Central congratulates these exemplary staff for their contributions to the hospital and its patients.
